Load Testing - Motors & Generators

LH Marthinusen provides specialised load testing services to verify the performance, reliability and operational capability of electrical machines and associated equipment. Our testing facilities simulate real operating conditions, allowing equipment to be assessed under controlled load environments before installation or return to service.

Load testing enables accurate evaluation of machine performance while confirming that equipment operates within its required design parameters.

Testing Capability

LHM’s load testing capability includes testing up to 3.5MW using a 4 pole, 11kV configuration. Mechanical load testing is conducted using generator-based systems to apply controlled load conditions and measure equipment performance accurately.

Back-to-back testing is also carried out for traction motors, allowing operational characteristics to be evaluated while maintaining efficient use of test power.

Routine Testing Procedures

Routine tests form a key part of the load testing process and are used to confirm equipment performance and operational stability. These tests include:

  • Output power measurement to verify that machines meet required performance ratings
  • Efficiency testing to evaluate energy performance and operating parameters
  • Commutation testing for DC motors to assess the interaction between brushes and the commutator

These procedures help identify potential issues and confirm that machines operate reliably under load.

Through controlled testing environments, specialised equipment and experienced technical personnel, LH Marthinusen delivers load testing services that verify equipment performance and support reliable operation in demanding industrial applications.
