This department provides vital support to the main workshops by supplying round and rectangular copper to given dimensions, either bare or covered with wrapped insulation. Copper is received in rod form and drawn down to size using one of the two rod breakers. The annealing is carried out in a batch process under nitrogen - an inert gas which ensures that the copper is bright annealed. The copper can be covered with:
- Polyester backed mica paper
- Kraft paper
- Glass yarn
Kapton if required is fused onto the copper through a purpose built tower. This department supplies most of the local repair industry with rectangular section copper.
